ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS Amplitude monitoring of the β Cephei star 16 Lacertae
نویسنده
چکیده
Based on new observations, it is shown here that the amplitude of one of the three well known and stable short periods in the β Cep variable 16 Lac has changed: while the radial modeP1 = 0.16917 d is near its lower amplitude level and the amplitude variation of the non-radial mode P3 = 0.18173 d is still probably in phase with the orbital period, the amplitude of the NR mode P2 = 0.17077 d has increased progressively by a factor two in the last ten years. The observed phase of P2 shows that at least for this period, the previous ephemeris is no longer valid. Various hypotheses are proposed to account for the observed amplitudes variations.

Astronomy & Astrophysics Interpretation of the variability of the β Cephei star λ Scorpii I . The multiple character ,
We derive accurate values of the orbital parameters of the close binary β Cephei star λ Scorpii. Moreover, we present the first determination of the properties of the triple system to which λ Scorpii belongs. Our analysis is based on a time series of 815 high-resolution spectra, covering a timespan of 14 years. We find a close orbit of 5. d9525 days (e = 0.26) and a wide orbit of approximately ...

We report on the results of fifteen months of monitoring the nearby field L1 dwarf WISEP J190648.47+401106.8 (W1906+40) with the Kepler mission. Supporting observations with the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array and Gemini North telescope reveal that the L dwarf is magnetically active, with quiescent radio and variable Hα emission. A preliminary trigonometric parallax shows that W1906+40 is at a ...

متن کاملThe Effect of Solar Particles in the Choice of Alloy Shielding in a Satellite
The damages and logical failures in dierent parts of a satellite may occur during a solar event, when a bulk of solar energetic particles approaching the Earth. During solar events, these particles may cause extensive damages which are even permanent (hard errors). A way of damage reduction is designing a proper coating as the fuselage. As protons are the major component of solar particles and ...
